Report on Merle and Jan's internship abroad

Jan and I had the opportunity to start our internship abroad in the town of Gjøvik, Norway, in October 2023.
Aljo made this internship possible for us in recognition of our achievements in the company and our training.
Preparations were made in cooperation with the Chamber of Crafts, which supported us both in planning our stay and applying for an Erasmus grant.
Moreover, Aljo provided us with a company car.
At the beginning, we were worried whether our knowledge of English would be sufficient. However, this concern turned out to be groundless.

We were also happy to move into our own apartment in the town of Gjøvik, which is 120 km north of Oslo.

And so we started our internship in various companies in Raufoss Industrial Park.

INSIGHT INTO THE WORLD OF WORK IN NORWAY

Nammo Raufoss AS, the first company we worked at, produces ammunition and rocket engines for the military and aerospace industry. The insight into working with CNC machines and testing space technologies very exciting.
The second company, Kongsberg Automotive, produces air clutches for brake systems. There we mainly worked in the department in charge of cleaning, repairing and maintaining injection molds.
During our internship, we also gained an insight into the Norwegian training system. A special feature of the Raufoss Industrial Park is an in-house training center, where trainees have access to various machines and where they can learn independently.
We also noticed that Norwegian companies try to promote the mental health and job satisfaction of their employees through flat hierarchies and a friendly working environment.

WE ENJOYED OUR STAY SO MUCH - IT WAS HARD TO SAY GOODBYE.

Another highlight for us was our participation in the industry award ceremony. This is given for outstanding achievements made within the industrial park.
In our free time, we explored Norway, visited Lillehammer and Trollstigen, and other places, and did a lot with our new colleagues, who have become friends in the meantime.
Having settled in so well and got to know so many nice people, it was hard for us to say goodbye to Norway.
We are very grateful for this experience, which did not only help improve our professional and language skills, but also contributed to our personal growth.
We, therefore, highly recommend taking part in an internship abroad to everybody.
